Your Way to Wellness

Your Way to Wellness is a free 6 week group program for people with Chronic Conditions like; heart disease, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, diabetes, COPD, etc. It will help you deal with some of the daily challenges you face. Learn how to manage your health condition, develop new coping skills and improve health.

Who is it for?

The Program is available to individuals affected by chronic conditions and/or a support person.

What are the benefits?

Program participants learn self management skills to help them:

  • Eat healthier 
  • Become more active 
  • Manage frustration, fatigue, fear, pain and isolation 
  • Manage their medications 
  • Improve self confidence 
  • Manage symptoms 
  • Make daily tasks easier 
  • Set goals, learn problem solving and develop action plans 
  • Use effective ways to communicate with family, friends, and health care professionals 
  • Evaluate new treatments

There is great emphasis on three process skills:

  • Action planning 
  • Disease-related problem solving, and 
  • Decision making

When and where is the program offered?

Programs are offered at various times throughout Antigonish, Guysborough and Strait Richmond areas. Please check the schedule (PDF link here) for the latest program schedule.

Does the program require a referral?

No, anyone can self refer.

Are you interested in becoming a lay leader?

Volunteer Lay Leaders lead the six week Your Way to Wellness Program in their local communities. Generally Lay Leaders are people who have a chronic condition or support someone with a chronic condition. No health care training is needed.

Volunteer Lay Leaders must:

  • Be comfortable speaking in front of groups.
  • Have good literacy skills and be able to follow a scripted format.
  • Be able to commit to a 4 day training session.
  • Be willing to co-lead at least one 6 week program within the first year after training.
