Open Arms Family Clinic

The Open Arms Family Clinic (OAFC) offers prenatal education and support to families. GASHA's Children's and Women's Health Team recommend that all pregnant women have an early visit to the OAFC. It is one on one time with the clinic nurse to provide the client with key messages related to healthy pregnancy, labor/delivery, infant safety and breastfeeding. It is a time for the client to ask questions.

A tour of the Children's and Women's Health Unit is offered to the client and her family. Referrals to other healthcare professionals will be made if necessary to ensure a holistic approach to care (social work, mental health and Addiction Services). It is also an opportunity for the nurse to collect any past health issues and family health issues. The Open Arms Family Clinic protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding. A lactation consultant is on staff and is available to all moms who need breastfeeding support.

Who is it for?

For pregnant women and their families.

Does the program require a referral?

Prenatal women can ask their doctor/midwife for a referral or the client may self refer by calling to make an an appointment, Referrals made early in the pregnancy provide more opportunity for promoting healthy mothers and healthy babies.
